In July 2020 it will be ten years since SPIN was founded, by Deb Stewart. Since then we have evolved from being a centre of excellence for poetry and music to include story telling, and in the past two years we have run four workshops that focused on skills development, with the help of funding from Onkaparinga Council. The skills we addressed were singing, stage performance, lyric writing and story writing. Some of our emerging artists have gone on to win prizes and establish their credentials throughout South Australia as well as interstate, earning respect for their professional approach to performance. We pride ourselves on providing a welcome and non-threatening atmosphere for first-time performers and tried and tested old-timers alike. Next year we aim to celebrate our tenth anniversary by showcasing some of the talents that we have helped to nurture over the past ten years, as well as drawing out some new talent that has yet to prove itself on a community stage.
